About Koh Tomyums

Koh Tomyums has cooked Thai food in Discovery Bay since 2007. We are on D’Deck, the waterfront row on the Discovery Bay promenade, with tables over the water and a kitchen that works to traditional recipes rather than adapted ones. You can eat in, or order online and collect.

Where we are

Shop 105B, 1/F, D’Deck, 8–12 Plaza Lane, Discovery Bay, Hong Kong.

Discovery Bay is on Lantau Island and is reached by ferry from Central Pier 3, which takes about 25 minutes and runs through the night. D’Deck is a two-minute walk from the Discovery Bay ferry pier — turn right as you come out and follow the waterfront. There is no road access for private cars into Discovery Bay, so most people arrive on foot from the pier.

How we cook

Curry pastes are pounded in our kitchen rather than bought in, and the herbs that define Thai cooking — lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime, holy basil, bird’s eye chilli — go in fresh. Nothing is cooked ahead and held under a lamp: every dish is made when it is ordered, which is why a takeaway takes about fifteen minutes rather than two.

Heat is shown on every dish as a chilli scale from none to three, and it is adjustable. Ask for a dish mild, medium or Thai hot and the kitchen will cook it that way. Thai hot is genuinely hot — it is how the dish is eaten in Thailand.

The menu

There are 146 dishes across 17 sections — starters, soups, salads, curries, meat, seafood, vegetables, rice, noodles, grills, specials, desserts and drinks. Most main dishes are between HK$90 and HK$166. Dishes are listed under their Thai names with the English name beneath, so Gaeng Kiew Wan is Thai green curry and Khao Niew Mamuang is mango sticky rice.

The salad section is the largest on the menu and the one most worth exploring: twenty-one yum and tum dishes dressed with lime, fish sauce and chilli rather than oil. Most Thai restaurants in Hong Kong list four.

Ordering and booking

Online orders are self pick-up only. We do not deliver, and there is no delivery partner — every online order is collected in person at the restaurant. An order is usually ready about fifteen minutes after you place it.

Tables can be booked online. Walk-ins are welcome, but the seaview tables book out at weekends. A booked table is held for fifteen minutes past the booking time, and no card is needed to reserve.

Hours

We are open daily, 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The kitchen takes its last order at 10:00 pm, and the last table booking of the day is also 10:00 pm.
