Frequently Asked Questions
Questions we are asked most often. If yours is not here, call +852 2987 0767 or email contact@kohtomyums.hk.
Ordering and collection
Do you deliver?
No. Koh Tomyums is self pick-up only. Order online and collect at Shop 105B, 1/F, D’Deck, Discovery Bay. There is no delivery service and no delivery partner.
How long does an order take?
About fifteen minutes. Everything is cooked when you order it, so nothing is sitting ready — the fifteen minutes is the cooking.
How late can I order?
The kitchen takes its last order at 10:00 pm, seven days a week. The restaurant itself stays open until 11:00 pm.
Can I order ahead for a specific time?
Yes. Place the order online and call us on +852 2987 0767 if you need it held for a particular collection time.
How do I pay?
Online orders are paid by card when you place the order. In the restaurant we take card and cash.
Getting here
How do I get to Discovery Bay?
Ferries run from Central Pier 3 and take about 25 minutes. The service runs through the night, so a late dinner is not a problem. D’Deck is a two-minute walk from the Discovery Bay ferry pier.
Where exactly are you on D’Deck?
Shop 105B, on the first floor. D’Deck is the waterfront row of restaurants on the Discovery Bay promenade — turn right out of the ferry pier and follow the water.
Can I drive?
Private cars cannot enter Discovery Bay. Most people arrive by ferry and walk, or come by bus from Tung Chung or the airport.
The food
Is the food very spicy?
Only where the dish is meant to be. Every dish carries a chilli rating from none to three, and every dish can be ordered mild, medium or Thai hot. Thai hot is genuinely hot — it is how the dish is eaten in Thailand.
Can I adjust the heat?
Yes, on any dish. Say so when you order, or leave a note in the kitchen notes box at checkout.
Do you have vegetarian dishes?
Yes, and the Vegetables section has twelve of them. Be aware that some Thai dishes that look vegetarian are cooked with fish sauce or shrimp paste — tell us when you order and we will tell you which dishes can be made without.
I have an allergy. What should I do?
Tell us. Use the kitchen notes box at checkout for online orders, or say so at the table. Thai cooking uses peanuts, shellfish and fish sauce widely, so please do not assume a dish is free of them.
What should I order if it is my first time?
A soup, a curry, a salad and a rice or noodle dish for the table to share. Tom Yum Kung, Gaeng Kiew Wan (green curry), Som Tum Thai (green papaya salad) and Pad Thai between them cover most of what Thai food does.
Why are the dishes named in Thai?
Because that is what they are called. Every dish carries its English name underneath — Gaeng Kiew Wan is Thai green curry, Khao Niew Mamuang is mango sticky rice — and you can search the menu in either.
Booking a table
Do I need to book?
Walk-ins are welcome. The seaview tables book out at weekends, so reserve ahead if you want to eat over the water.
How late can I book?
The last booking of the day is 10:00 pm.
How long is my table held?
Fifteen minutes past the booking time. No card is needed to reserve. Bookings are confirmed by the restaurant, so you will get a confirmation email once yours is accepted.
Can you take a large group?
The online booking form takes up to ten people. For anything larger, call +852 2987 0767.
Book a tableHours
What are your opening hours?
Daily, 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The kitchen takes its last order at 10:00 pm and the last table booking is 10:00 pm.
Are you open on public holidays?
We open every day. If a holiday changes our hours we will say so on this page and on the front page.
